Dial-Up Networking could not complete a connection to the server, check your configuration and try again.

Reasons why this might be happening
  • Access Number is having a Problem
  • DNS#s are incorrect, or not functioning
  • Username/Password are incorrect
  • WinSock.Dll/WSock32.Dll files corrupted
  • TCP/IP Corrupted
  • Encrypted Password Checked
  • No TCP/IP Checked for DUN Connectiod
  • no Client for Microsoft Networks Installed
  • No TCP/IP Installed
  • IPX/SPX Compatible/NetBEUI Checked in DUN Connectiod, and Present in Network.
  • (Anything I missed?)

Let's start simple, and work our way up

  • Try a different Access number, or a 1-800# to see if you Can or Cannot get connected.

Let's check that password you are entering

  • Re-Enter the Username/Password, and try again

Check for: Encrypted PW, Incorrect DNS, and What's Checked in your Connectiod.

  1. Open My Computer, Dial-Up Networking, Right-Click on the Connectiod for your ISP, select Properties (last item)
  2. Click on Server Types. Usually IPS's only need Enable Software Compression, and at the bottom TCP/IP checked. so if there is anything else, if you are sure you don't need it, Uncheck it.. e.g. Log on to network.
  3. Let's check those DNS#s, click on TCP/IP Settings...
Primary/Secondary DNS will be shown, it will either have a (o) in Server Assigned Name Server Addresses, if it is, then make sure your ISP does assign it to you when you connect, because if they do not, you will need to add the DNS#s in the Pri/Sec DNS.

Next Easiest thing to check for is if your w*oc*.dll files are ok

  1. Start, Run, type Command press OK.
  2. in the command prompt ( C:\windows\Desktop\> ) type ping 127.0.01 then press Enter
  3. If you get Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128 (or something like that) four times, great! if not, continue did you get "Failed"?
  4. if it Failed, you need to Extract another WinSock.Dll and WSock32.Dll
  5. Try pinging a home page, type ping www.yahoo.com if you get "Unknown Host" they type ping 204.71.200.67 if you get the replies, then that means your DNS#s are incorrect, or just not working.
