My Distance

Life is but a twisted game,
Testing of the soul,
Designed to bring enlightenment
Yet punish us and scald

Destiny plays tricks on me
And Fate guides me untrue
But yet have I to fail a test
My struggle isn't through

By pushing me beyond my bounds
I'm tested under pain
A heavy burden on my back
My muscles start to strain

And then to test me even more
I find I'm not alone
My dearest friends, the ones I love
Down my path, too must roam

I drag them into my abyss
A place thats dark and sad
It tests my limits further
To my burden it does add

I try to keep them separate
Distant from my pain
But all I do to save their joy
Is wasted, fought in vain

I never want to hurt a soul
To hurt you as I do
By distancing my inner self
I try to protect you

I'm sorry if you take offence,
I'm forced against my will
It's for the better, common good
I truly love you still
