Hints & Tips.

• If possible run a Vesa2.0 TSR, if your graphics card doesn’t have one, try Scitech Display Doctor.
• If you can, run UAE under windows95, It tends to be a little less stable under win95 but disk access is much faster and the filesys supports long file names. Do not try to run it in a window.
• Run in 320x200 256 for max speed.
• Under DOS make sure you use smartdrv or another similar program, this will greatly improve disk access, although it still won't be as quick as it is under win95 :)

Well, at the time of writing that’s all the tips I can think off, feel free to send me any tips you have so others can benefit from your experiences.

Bugs.

• DosUAE’s sound will only work with a SB16 or 100% compatible. It does not seem to work with 8 bit soundblasters.
• Several Interface bugs are present, none cause serious problems and most should be fixed by the next version.

Please tell me about any bugs that you can think of. If possible only send DosUAE specific info, things like the problems with the sprite emulation don’t concern the DosUAE porters.

Q: How do I create a blank adf?? A: Easy use the dos utility makedisk supplied with uae. Run makedisk with the df parameter. Example. c:\amiga>makedisk df this will create a diskfile called "diskfile", rename this to something like "blank1.adf" or something and hey presto, you have a blank adf.

Q: How do I read PC directories from within DosUAE. A: In the interface select "hard disk settings/add a volume" enter the name of the volume (no colon) eg "Boot" then enter the exact path of the volume, with no trailing slash ie "d:\amiga\boot". Note that if no disk file is found when UAE boots then UAE will boot from the mounted volume.

Q: How do I read DMS files using UAE. A: Ok, to do this you must first create some blank adf’s (see making blank adfs) then you have to copy the DMS file to a PC directory that UAE is set up to access(see above). Set the blank adf as one of the floppies, make sure you boot of a floppy that contain the DMS program or off a PC directory that has DMS. Once booted up simply run the amiga dms to decompress the dms to blank adf.
