1 The dates for the eleven specified public holidays for 2002 are as follows:

New Year’s Day	Tuesday	1^st January 2002
Chinese New Year	Tuesday	12^th February 2002
	Wednesday	13^th February 2002
Hari Raya Haji	Saturday	23^rd February 2002
Good Friday	Friday	29^th March 2002
Labour Day	Wednesday	1^st May 2002
Vesak Day	*Sunday	26^th May 2002
National Day	Friday	9^th August 2002
Deepavali	*Sunday	3^rd November 2002
Hari Raya Puasa	Friday	6^th December 2002
Christmas Day	Wednesday	25^th December 2002

* The following Monday will be a public holiday.

2 The date, 3^rd November 2002 for Deepavali is based on the calculations as before. It will be counter-checked with the Indian Almanacs when they are available towards the end of 2001 as the actual Deepavali date is based on the Indian Almanacs. Should there be a difference, the Ministry of Manpower would announce it accordingly towards the end of 2001.
