Yes, WebHunter 1.4 allows you to download files from web pages that are password-protected. WebHunter will pop up a window to ask user to enter user name and password when password-protected page is accessed.

Generally speaking, there are two ways to ask user to enter password information when you use web browser, such as Netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer.

The first way is that a window pops up to ask user to enter the password information. The second way is to enter the password information from a web page. There is no popup window for the second way. There is some technically differences how web server process the authentication between these two. We are not going to discuss the differences. Here we are going to talk about how WebHunter handle the authentication request.

For the first case, WebHunter always pops up a window to ask user to enter password information. For the second case, you can tell whether WebHunter process the authentication request from the web page. In some scenario, you don't have a password for a site and you don't want to have password request to interrupt the search process. You can turn the password request off for the second case by deselecting the Check HTML for password request from Filter panel.
