• Info related to New Windows MediaPlayer 5.2 ,MPEG Layer-3 and Ds2stream:

  • You can call it mplayer2.exe MediaPlayer 5.2 or MediaPlayer Version 5.01 as its about box reports.New MediaPlayer generates at least two major problems one for RealNetworks ( RealAudio/RealVideo www.real.com ) as it installs Own RealAudio even if you have RealAudio 5 or G2.Your RealPlayer will start having problems afterwards.Read Software News for more.

  • Second Any Software Player/Recorder which relies on Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec MAY have trouble as MediaPlayer 5.2 MAY uninstall it.Can be seen from following install script:(Which is part of MediaPlayer install operation)

      system.ini, drivers32, "msacm.voxacm150=*"
      system.ini, drivers32, "msacm.l3codec=*",,1

    Last line "system.ini, drivers32, "msacm.l3codec=*",,1" will uninstall Layer-3 Codec from acm (Audio Compression Manager) and system.ini.It will install a Active X / ActiveMovie2 / DirectShow Filter instead.Can be seen from following install script:

    line "Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Decoder Install" means you have only Decoder (Playback only) instead of a full Codec (Playback/Record) and no acm support but ActiveMovie support.

  • Result DS2STREAM and other ACM based programs will loose their support for MPEG Layer-3 if they are using professional version of CODEC.Solution reinstall CODEC or regenerate registry entries.
