November 1999
Somehow Jackson got it in his head that instead of taking
baths he wanted to take a shower with me. As soon as Jackson
started doing it, Zachary wanted to do it as well. So every
night for about a month the three of us would shower. It
was not very relaxing. Zachary would try to grab normally
unseen parts of my anatomy. Jackson would hog all the shower
spray. Here the two of them are "getting warm" after their
shower.
We've become quite the reading family. Zachary has discovered
reading as well. His favorites are "Katy Kat and Beaky Boo" and
"Goodnight Moon". Jackson gets two or three stories per night
before he goes to bed. Here Lisa is reading Jackson "East of the
Sun, West of the Moon".
Thanksgiving was a big deal at the boys' daycare. The parents
were invited to share lunch with them. Zachary's class is full
of heavy eating boys and saucy girls. Here Zachary is wearing
his Indian (Native American?, Indigenous Person?) headdress.
Lisa was on a very tight Christmas schedule. We were hosting
a Christmas eve party and there were cookies to be made all
through November and December. Jackson and Zachary are ready
to help make cookies.
December 1999
Lisa's company had a Christmas party, so we got all dressed up and
went. I was used to NASA potluck-in-the-wind-tunnel-bay type
Christmas parties so I was excited. I had visions of the Nakatomi
party from the movie "Die Hard" (without the German terrorists).
It wasn't quite that swanky, but it was still fun.
There was a Christmas pageant put on at the daycare. Each class
sang a song for the parents. The Zachary's class mostly ran to
their parents crying, but Jackson's class sang "Rudolph" and some song
about eating a candy cane. Jackson loved performing and danced
while he sang. The thing on his head is a pair of reindeer antlers.
This is the cast party back at our house after the Christmas pageant.
The boys are eating a cheese stick still basking in the applause.
Angela is a regular Joan Baez. She was singing to Jackson something
about the coming revolution and the World Trade Organization. I
wasn't really paying attention. I was watching football in my
Nike sweats eating some bean dip from a non-recyclable plastic jar.
Christmas 1999
Well, the gift opening started bright and early Christmas
morning. Luckily, after living with Zachary for the past
20 months, getting up early is no big deal. Jackson and
Zachary both got bikes from Santa. Jackson also got a lot
of Pokemon paraphenalia. Here he is sitting on his bike holding
a Bulbasaur pokeball wearing a Charizard/Charmander/Charmeleon
shirt and wearing Pikachu shoes.
Here Jackson stands triumphantly over the enormous pile of
wrapping paper that once covered his gifts proudly holding
two Buzz Lightyears.
Jackson has been told he can't do something (I forget what it
was) until he finishes his quesadilla. This is his best
"Life's not fair" face.
Here is Jackson the first time he ever rode a big boy bike.
He learned the concept of "uphill" vs "downhill" and the
importance of carrying a snack and full juice bottle while
riding.
