I entered my senior year in high school in August of '99, which was good and bad. It was good because I was almost out of school, but it also meant that time was running out with the people I had spent a lot of time with. I had known some of my classmate since kindergarten. I will never forget the time that the drug dogs came to the school while I was in physics class. We made good use of the extra time and built a line of dominos that went from the lab desk across on meter sticks to the chalk board and then ran along the chalk board. I put some pictures of the project on the photo gallery of my school's webpage.
In 1999, I really took the power of the internet and put it to good use with by meeting new people online. My chat friends are some of my better friends, the people I go to for advice on problems, the people I share my good times with. I realized the true value of my friends in 1999.
I experienced times that will forever alter my life, some for the better, some for worse. I suppose that the best way to put it is in a quote I read:
Life is like a roller coaster. It has its ups and downs but when part of it is over you wish you could do it again.
I spent the month of June anticipating the Metallica concert that I attended July 3rd in St. Louis with my good friends Chris and Justin. I uploaded a picture of the concert tickets. The concert also featured Korn, Kid Rock, Powerman 5000 and System of a Down. The concert was the second best thing that happened during the summer of 2000.
The best day, without a doubt, happened July 17th, when I started dating Lindy. We spent quite a bit of time together. Oh by the way, ten seconds is the only reason why July 17th ever became significant. If you still don't understand...too bad. Some things in life will, to some, remain forever a mystery.
I left my job on August 6th, to have some time with my girlfriend and friends. Then on August 16th, I had to leave for college at PSU. People asked me if I was ready to go and I replied no, for I did not want to have to leave my girlfriend.
Since this is my first year of college, it was quite a change. My RA, Jeff, is cool. He keeps the hall under control, but really doesn't have much trouble from anybody on the floor anyways. At least he isn't a real uptight type of person.
I continued to miss my girlfriend all through college. Classes weren't too bad. Being part of the Pride Of The Plains Marching Band was pretty cool. It was a lot of work. I learned interesting things in Psychology, and of course now I know some Calculus.
Crazy Dave nicknamed me Disgruntle Dave. I think that came about because I tended to be disgruntled at times about some things. I am also known as Double D or Dē.
Thanksgiving break was fun, because I continued the tradition that has gone on for as long as I can remember. A tradition of playing football with my uncles and cousins. My team won. My dad was on the other team. Hehe. The best part about Thanksgiving break was getting to spend six days in a row with my girlfriend. That was a first since August. Having to go back to college after that was a pain though. I wanted to stay and spend more time with my girlfriend. I guess it's just one of the sacrifices that I have had to make in my life because of what others think is best for me. Christmas break was nice because I got to spend more time with friends and family. It snowed about ten inches the night before I was going to go home, so I had to wait a few days before I could go home. But I did finally make it. It was nice to be home, but I missed the higher connection speed to the internet that I had at college, not to mention the fact that I had my computer personalized to my liking more than the one at home. Oh well.
Over Christmas break, my older sister and I made a big slide out of snow that was almost as tall as I am, and then I made some snow igloos. Most were just big enough to fit a cat or two in, but the cats actually used them. One that I made was big enough that I could crawl in. The snow actually hung around for more than a day or two, and the igloos for even longer. Of course the fact that it didn't get above freezing for about two weeks helped. Small piles still remained as the new year came in.
