The Hall of Fame S.W.T. is awarded to an outstanding individual whose performance both in as well as out of L.C.C.H.S. warrants recognition. Because this award is not officially bestowed every year, only an inspired and deserving individual can claim to it as judged by their peers.
For twenty-six years this teacher has been a member of the LaSalle Catholic family. He lives on a mode of high energy, always on the go and constantly trying to improve things for his students, the school and the staff in general. As you will soon hear, he is a "Man of all Seasons".
In September of each year, he takes the Grade Seven students on a full day bike trip to Old Montreal. In November, two bus loads of Grade Eight's are given a great week in Toronto. December sees him partaking in ski trips at St. Sauveur. January and February are consumed with cosom hockry and helping out with Carnival week. But be forewarned, if there is water around, someone is going to get wet! March madness brings on the Washington trip. Over ninety students are treated to such sights as the Capitol Building, White House, and Holocaust Museum. From there it's on to New York City for a rampage of shopping and touring. Not back a week from that adventure and it's off once more. This time it's Grade Seven students who embark on a two-day educational excursion to Quebec City. As May approaches, the Grade Six elementary schools come to LaSalle Catholic for their annual soccer tournament, and once again, he is there leading the way. Another bike trip in June and a swimming day and the Aquadome will send the kids away wanting more.
In addition to all of these activities, as any staff member will avow, he is always there to lend a helping hand outside of the school. Need something done? Call him and you'll be sure it's fixed. Running a staff party? He's always there to participate and is often the first one to arrive and the last one to leave after all the work is done. This gentlemen also contributes greatly to the morale of the school. regarded as one of the best practical jokers, he seldom is without an ingenious, albeit harmless prank to lighten the atmosphere when things get hectic. He frequently gives up his personal time for school causes and is hailed as one of the most genuine of teachers. He never wavers in his professional duties and every staff room lights up when he enters with his amiable demeanor and radiant smile. He brings a welcome levity to each and every day.
Always ready with a word of advice and encouragement, he is instrumental in assisting student teachers with their stages. They leave here confident and prepared under his tutelage. He donates gifts and prizes to school functions, and it is not uncommon for this individual to dig into his own pockets to help make ends meet. He is always there for a good cause.
Like all of us here at LaSalle Catholic, this man was, and is still, influenced by the memory of Norm O'Brien. Happy Moore once said that when Norm passed away, it would take ten people to replace him. We think we've found eight of that ten right under our noses, wrapped up in a congenial package called "Big Fields". Altruistic, sympathetic, charismatic and friendly, this teacher personifies what it means to be a team player.
We know that if and when he accepts this award, his first words will be..."I'm only doing my job!" As members of the staff here at LaSalle Catholic, we are truly proud to be associated with such a well-rounded human being, and are honoured to submit the name Mr. Claude Grandchamp for the Hall of Fame Award.
