Business Press Review ===================== Ramstad, Evan. "No-name PC makers defy the odds", The Globe and Mail. Wednesday, January 8, 1997. B8. ------------------ This article discusses how small, entrepreneurial computer retailers have managed to successfully compete against giant computer vendors such as Dell, AST, IBM, and DEC. These small retailers are responsive to new technologies, customer demands, and competition in their market. They operate on a shoe-string budget with low inventory, and a very accurate accounting system. In our first lecture, the value of accounting was presented. Accounting allows the entrepreneur to measure the success of his/her business. It is my belief that these small retailers must maintain very high accounting standards in order to survive in their very competitive field. These retailers operate on such a thin profit margin that they must be able to make quick and critical business decisions. Otherwise, these businesses would not survive.
