Victor Treneary

1Newspaper clipping about the death of George and Victor Treneary 1969. "Newspaper clipping Jan 16, 1969 Brothers Die Few Days Apart Brothers Mr George Treneary aged 71 of Hayle, and Mr Victor Treneary, aged 66 of St Marys Isles of Scilly have died recently within a few days of each other. They belonged to a family of five brothers, born and brought up at the Isles of Scilly. The two surviving brothers are Mr Joe Treneary of St Marys and Mr Stewart Treneary of Liskeard. They were the sons of the late Mr and Mrs George Treneary of Golf farm St Marys. Their grandfather a noted hedger, went to the islands from Sennen at the time Augustus Smith was building up his estate at Scillly. Victor the third son died on January 7 at Birmingham where with his wife he was visiting a niece. WELL KNOWN Mr Treneary was well known to hundreds of holidaymakers including the Prime Minister who used his services as a taxi driver. He had run a taxi business since giving up the familys flower farm close to the golf course some eight years ago. Trained as a baker, Mr Treneary for some time followed his trade aboard the passenger lined Majestic. Mr Treneary married a Scillonian the former Miss May Williams, whom he leaves. There are no children. Cremation took place at Birmingham on Monday, and the ashes will be scattered at the Isles of Scilly. Mr George Treneary died at his home at Treverhan estate, Hayle, on December 29 The eldest brother he served as a regular soldier for some years, rising to the rank of captain. After taking part in the landing at the Dardenelles he was sent to France during the first war. At one time he was in the same trenches as his father, then the oldest islander in the armed forces. This was against orders and father and son were quickly separted. Mr Treneary spent 24 years in the Indian army and he retired during the last war. He leaves a widow and two sons Jack who lives in Ireland, and Eric at Hayle, Cremation took place at Penmount, Truro, and his ashes also will be scattered at the Isles of Scilly.".
