Frequently Asked Questions about "No Security"

- How can I delete "No Security"?

Like any other installed Program: Go to the "Launcher" and select 
"Delete..."  from the "App" menu.  In this dialog you can delete it by 
selecting "No Security" from the list.

- I've unzipped the archive but it is incomprehensible!  There are a lot of 
files.  Do I need all of these?

No, to use "No Security", you need only to install the file nosecurity.prc 
(with your "Palm Install Tool").  
README.TXT is the documentation.

FAQ.TXT is the file, you're reading at the moment.  The rest of the files 
belong to the source code and can be ignored, if you aren't a developer.

- Is "No Security" of any help, if I have locked my handheld and have 
forgotten my password?

No!  In this case this program can't help at all.  "No Security" can only 
remove the password, if you have hidden your private records, and not if 
you have locked your dewvice.

- So locking my handheld is a safe method to secure my sensitive data?

That depends on your definition of sensitive.  I think, that it's safe 
enough to discourage your friends from sneaking at your private data.  But 
keep in mind that you also have to secure your desktop computer.  And with 
enough effort (and maybe special equipment) an intruder could get at your 
data anyway.  If you have really sensitive data (and who hasn't with all 
the passwords and PIN codes), strong cryptography is the only solution 
(besides not storing sentive data at all).

- Isn't it unethical to give away a tool to weaken the security of
the Palm Computing Platform?

I don't think that "No Security" does in any way weaken the security of 
your handheld.  The bad guy could have used any of the various other 
methods to get at your private records.  E.g.  He could have synced it to 
his Macintosh, which doesn't use the private bit at all.  Or he could have 
deleted your "unsaved preferences" database (Thats where the password is 
stored), with any tool that can delete a single database (like "ZCatalog").  
Or he could delete just the password record from the preferences using 
"Prefs Ed".
