Member of the Month Award

Over the past year, we of Yahoo! Club Founders' Club have found that many of our members are extremely knowledgeable on a variety of subjects, that they possess kindness, patience, and a willingness to share. Occasionally, however, we find a single member who shines, someone who in their participation in our club and within the Yahoo! club system, deserves special recognition. It is our special privilege to acknowledge their dedication, service, and talent.

The Yahoo! Club Founders' Club
Member of the Month for September, 2000:

CFC_Founders

Contrary to a popular misconception, the founders of Yahoo! Club Founders' Club are not on Yahoo! paid staff (boy, money would be nice) and have no official recognition from Yahoo! except as any club founder would enjoy. Like you, they gain no remuneration for the time and energy they put into CFC and they do an awful lot of work behind the scenes that you may never see. CFC_Founders, who recently acquired their own mailbox apart from this homepage, answer all the tough questions, surf and scour the Internet for information and graphic files, test all the new systems and club features so they can explain them, and in short, do a lot of the leg work for you. You can e-mail them any time with any question pertaining to clubs, homepages, and other Internet services; and, if they don't know the answer, they'll go find it and they'll get back to you.

CFC_Founders are also founders of Yahoo! clubs besides all the work they put into Yahoo! Club Founders' Club (and they sometimes actually get to spend time in their other clubs). The following their duties in Yahoo! Club Founders' Club.

ArrylT is in charge of overall club administration and operations, contests and promotions, featuring selection, and maintence of the clubsite. His personal homepage is: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/1498

Angelpie_Mouse is in charge of foundership verification and general club records, the club homepage, the newsletter, the creation of club feature graphics and webpages and graphics on request, the CFC Yahoo! Club Webring, and coordination of club correspondence. Her personal homepage is: http://www.geocities.com/angelpie_mouse

Mistybunny is in charge of chat scheduling and notification, clubs and member personal records, the CFC Calendar section, and the welcoming of new members. She also assists with foundership verification. She wants you to be sure to send her important information such as club anniversary dates, birthdays, e-mail address changes, and significant life events for her feature in the newsletter Club News. Send them to: Mistybunny@yahoo.com Please take a moment to do it now! Her personal homepage is: http://www.geocities.com/mistyboo63/

NOWAYWINS is in charge of eGroup orientation and FAQs on merged Yahoo!-eGroup features and technical assistance. The newest member of the CFC administration team, he's still feeling his way into office and is expected to take on more as he sees the need. You may join the eGroup at http://www.egroups.com/group/CFC_EXPERIMENTAL [No personal homepage at this reporting, but he's working on it.]

Featured Clubs

If you haven't seen the sort of thing featured clubs get beyond the club logo which appears on our clubsite for a week, then you haven't seen anything yet.

Each week (sometimes monthly), ArrylT reviews and forwards the name or a list of clubs which have requested and meet the guidelines for featuring (see Feature Policy). A full webpage is prepared with fresh graphics, describing the club, displaying over a dozen graphics for clubsite display, and offering banners and more.

The clubs presented during September included:

New Clubs

Only a few new clubs joined us in September. Of course, not all the people joining during the month have told us about their clubs yet. You gotta put that information on the comment line in the Members section or write me with information about your club(s), please! Too, what would you expect during the last gasp of Summer (or Winter if you live south of the equator), eh?

Take the time to stop by one or two of these clubs for a visit, or see their description in our Member Club Listing to see if this club is one that appeals to your own interests.

Club policy is to allow membership for ninety (90) days to persons not reporting a club in foundership. This period allows persons who join to learn how to start clubs to ask questions and receive assistance in setting up their clubs. After the grace period, persons who have not reported a club foundership are administratively removed from CFC membership. It's part of our contract with you that all members are founders. If you have not reported a club because you wish the club name to remain confidential or you just forgot, please write: Angelpie_Mouse@yahoo.com.

Club Anniversaries

A new feature we hope to continue every month is the announcement of club anniversaries, which recognizes the founding date of the clubs member to CFC. Considering the volitility of the Internet (and the assistance of hackers making it that way), for a club to survive to its first anniversary is a milestone deserving recognition, for a club to make it to two years is...well! So, this newsletter we recognize all clubs which have survived to celebrate the surpassing of their founding date in the months of September and October because they did (clubs marked :-) are celebrating a second year anniversary--WOW!).

Club/Member News
by Mistybunny and AngelPie_Mouse

Straightout Gossip and Stuff

SharemMaten, founder of Comic and Anime Style Drawing, went on a mountain vacation in Colorado in September, but left the joyous news that her 16-month-old little boy is "finally" walking!! Sharem, you could regret this!! Now you will spend lots of time chasing him around! But, congrats to you all, a milestone for sure!

Congratulations to kitt3n13 and her boyfriend on the move into their very first house in August! Happy House-warming! (kitt3n13 is founder of way too many clubs for us to mention them all here, so check out her profile or her entry in the Members section).

yheart1 has broken down and got a nice new computer to do all her club stuff on. No excuses to play now!! Congratulations! Also, please extend warmest birthday greetings to yheart, who celebrated her 33rd birthday on October 7th!! Hope you had the very best Happy Birthday! (Did the gang at Psycho Men Slayerz help you celebrate?)

crusader963 sent this bit of news!! Sure sounds like crusader is a very busy person!

I am at present very busy with functions and events in the City of London. I am a Beadle (ala Mr Bumble of Oliver Twist infamy) and also a City of London MC (EmCee) Toastmaster, and Macebearer. I have founded several clubs, some of which are taking off very nicely and which have teamed up with other similar clubs. These include Chivalry and Knighthood, Clan Grant or Family, Frontiersmen, Militaria and the Officers Club, with good links to Chivalry Lives, Scottish American and other similar clubs. Earlier this year I became a member of the Royal Order of Dom Carlos Primeira of Portugal and I have now been published in DeBrett's People of Today, to be released in November.

News from the DDK club! The DDK celebrated their 2nd Anniversary on October 17 by taking the show on the road. Many members met at the Texas Renaissance Fair and the GT (get together) was marked by award ceremonies and photo opportunities (see pictures and the full story on the DDK website).

alska_du is glowing over her new club, Alska's Abode For Friends 'n Fun [http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/alskasabodeforfriendsnfun]. Says she, "I created a new Club for my online friends, just to have a place to hang out and for others to meet some new friends...on Sept. 17th. And I was very worried; I didn't think the Club would make a go. But, by the third day, the message board hit over a 1000 posts! which made me very happy!!!"

TOC Is Gone!

Although it still shows on the listing for clubs in our category, The Official Club has been deleted. As you probably read on our message board, Warren (Clubsproducer) took the club over to eGroups so that members choosing to follow could get some experience of what eGroup features are like. If you would still like to present ideas concerning clubs upgrades, you can reach him at: Yahoo Clubs [http://www.egroups.com/group/yahooclubs] --apm

Yahoo! Clubs Upgrades So Far

  • 50 club limit--You can now be a founder/member of up to 50 clubs, up from a former 32 club limit.

  • Longer founder's message--The founder's message length limit has increased and will now hold up to 1000 characters.

  • More Photo Album space--15 MB limit, up from 5 MB.

Webring.Org/Yahoo! Merger

Yahoo! acquired Webring.Org last year and, for a while, maintained the status quo. No more. On Tuesday, September 5, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. PST, they launched their new, upgraded version. We're not sure we really like the new user interface, but it is something we're all going to have to learn to live with. Ah-hem. -- apm

News Flash!

Mistybunny celebrates a birthday this coming Monday--October 23rd. You can send egreetings and best wishes to mistybunny@yahoo.com. If fact, we hope you will! -- apm

Have you got some club or personal news you'd like to share? Mistybunny wants to hear from you pronto! Please write Mistybunny@yahoo.Com.

Software/Technical Review

CFC_EXPERIMENTAL REPORT
by NOWAYWINS

One of the things you can do with eGroups is set up automated greetings--letters that will explain club features and activities to new members joining your clubs. Below is the sample of the letter we use when you join http://www.egroups.com/group/CFC_EXPERIMENTAL

Hello and welcome to CFC_EXPERIMENTAL eGroups.

Please feel free to make polls, look around, try things and mail comments and questions. For an idea of what has been talked about in regards to the merger between eGroups and Yahoo! Clubs, please check out http://www.wins.ch/valerie/yahooclubs/index2.html and look for eGroups along the left.

A few rules, since you are all moderators (founders), you all can upload files to send out. I ask that you do not do this for fear of spreading a virus as I am sure some of you have experienced with other mail lists. As this is ‘your’ egroup, treat it as you would your own. Only do what you can undo. Never be afraid to ask. And, please, respect the others of this group. Thank you

When you upload such a document, too, continuing members receive a notification that the document is in storage and may be read or downloaded. This feature can be an extremely powerful one, assisting you in eliminating confusion and uneven distribution of information. []

Short Announcement from AngelPie_Mouse:
Paint Shop Pro 7 by Jasc. has been just released. The new version includes lots of new animation features, better layering hierarchies, and I haven't quite figured out yet all the things this puppy can do. If you use PSP already, upgrade is available from version 3 forward for a modest fee of $39.00 plus shipping and sales tax, but only to registered customers. It's worth it.[]

Club Business Announcements

Item #1 -- NOWAYWINS Joins the CFC Administration Team!
Promoted to CFC founder in September, NOWAYWINS joins the team of the CFC Administration to bring you technical assistance and information concerning the Yahoo!-eGroups merger and features you can expect. He will also be fielding your questions for technical assistance on a variety of Yahoo! specific issues. You may write him at: CFC_Founders@Yahoo.Com. ArrylT, Mistybunny, and I (AngelPie_Mouse) are frankly glad to have him on our team!

Item #2 -- CFC in the TOP TEN.
Recently, Yahoo! shuffled the category heirarchy in which our club resides. They pulled out test clubs and advertising clubs and other clubs that really didn't have anything to do with founder networking and placed them in separate categories. Alakazam! we become club #10 in the Top Ten Founders Clubs. We don't usually, of course, pay attention to those numbers. If we did, we might enter into some of the recruiting strategems that more aggressive clubs engage in, you know the ones. We've always relied on word of mouth and a reputation that you've helped us build. However, it's nice to be in the Top Ten at last.

Item #3 -- Happy Holidays Featured Clubs.
If you are a continuing member ...and Yahoo! glitches don't count (more later)... and your club was featured or is scheduled to be and is still existing (this happens), then a Halloween graphic has been prepared for display in your club. On Monday, October 23, we will feature Halloween in CFC and all continuing featured clubs will be sent a Halloween graphic created for their club. Many of these are animated graphics (if you need help displaying them, ask). It's our way of saying: "Happy Halloween" to you. You can see the graphics prepared at Halloween.

Item #4 -- ALL CLUBS!!!!
The presidential election in the U.S. is November 7, 2000. While not all clubs may be interested in U.S. politics, enough of your members may be or may be U.S. citizens. So, we have prepared special graphics for Election 2000 that you may display in your clubs to remind them to vote. Any club wishing to use these graphics may choose one, then write and request that we add your club name to the image for clubsite display in your club. The graphics are currently on display on our featured club page Election 2000. Participating clubs will be listed on the page so you can check them out.

Item #5 -- Yahoo! Glitches.
Like when do we not have them? Well, one outstanding glitch that I (AngelPie_Mouse) get to track is this rather odd one that periodically dumps people out of CFC. I've been watching it for a while now. Every time they do some major work on the clubs system, we get one or two people--long time members--suddenly disappearing. I would be the one to see it since I review our member records weekly. Naturally, I write people departing asking them if it was their intention or something. So, if you get a letter from me asking why you left us and you don't remember doing so, that's it. Of course, if you decide to leave us on purpose, please tell us if it is something we're failing to do for you so we can improve. Come to think of it, tell us before you leave so maybe we can change your mind.

Item #6 -- Graphics by Request.
You may be wondering why some clubs get logo graphics for the asking and you don't. Well, the answer is: you can. Any club may request graphics for their club at any time (subject to AngelPie_Mouse's workload). These may include holiday graphics for holidays we don't normally feature like Guy Fawkes Day or ANZAC Day or Chinese New Years or a couple of regular logos for clubsite display (you may have to help me out for those I am really unfamiliar with and/or non-English languages). We sort of deduct these from the bank of graphics we would prepare for you when your club is featured. Featured clubs get at least a dozen clubsite 150s plus holiday graphics every holiday, subject to the U.S. standardly recognized (mostly because these are the ones I know). If you want a special clubsite graphic prepared, ask.
