We--ArrylT, Mistybunny, and AngelPie_Mouse--don't have to be know-it- alls. We got you!
Actually, we freely admit we don't have all the answers, not even a good percentage of them. Of course, if we don't know the answer, we'll go looking, but that's beside the point. It wasn't our purpose, in creating CFC, to even pretend that we were the answer people. What we wanted was to provide a good forum for you to share the benefits of your experience, a place where you can shine.
We've found over the past year that many members are extremely knowledgeable on a variety of subjects, that they do possess kindness, patience, and a willingness to share which makes our jobs easy. In fact, the hard part has often been to stand back and let you at it. What has been missing is recognition for your individual talents and a pat on the back and a thank-you for sharing them. And thus, we have created this feature for our newsletter...Member of the Month.
Our very first member of the month, Member of the Month for July, 2000, is FreedomDeep.
FreedomDeep is founder/co-founder of three Yahoo! clubs:
- Sleepless in Sacramento
An area club for online conversation and off-line fun. [http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/sleeplessinsacramento]
- The Moonbeam Lounge
A social club for romance and love in Yahoo Clubs. [http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/themoonbeamlounge]
- Ink It Up!
A club about one her favorite hobbies, rubber stamping. [http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/inkitup]
We name her member of the month in recognition of her selflessness and dedication to helping other founders-members of CFC. Nothing corny about it, she's been there for us with great ideas and comfort when we needed it. Thank you, FreedomDeep.

If you haven't seen the sort of thing featured clubs get beyond the club logo which appears on our clubsite for a week, then you haven't seen anything yet.
Each week (sometimes monthly), ArrylT reviews and forwards the name or a list of clubs which have requested and meet the guidelines for featuring (see Feature Policy). A full webpage is prepared with fresh graphics, describing the club, displaying over a dozen graphics for clubsite display, and offering banners and more.
The clubs presented over the past thirty (30) days include:

Featured Mondays, June 26, 2000 and July 3, 2000.

Playing catch-up with all the clubs coming over the past few weeks has been fun (NOT). We end up with one massive list for which we can only they arrived some time between June 26 and August 10. Some represent new clubs created by or representing promotion to foundership status for continuing member. Some represent clubs the founders didn't think they wanted to tell us about when they originally joined CFC. Either way, just because it is a paperwork nightmare, doesn't mean we aren't glad to have them.
Clubs Joining Since June 26, 2000
Take the time to stop by one or two of these clubs for a visit, or see their description in our Member Club Listing to see if this club is one that appeals to your own interests.

- Mistybunny and ArrylT
Both announced they were going on vacation from August 3rd through August 14th. Mistybunny is in North Carolina with her husband and kids and occassionally getting Internet access. We're not sure where ArrylT is. Me, I get to swelter here in 100+ degree heat in California without A/C, holding down the fort.
- damsel_in_distresss
She's done it and Yahoo! recognized her for it. Wow! What did DID do? She became so prolific at this clubs stuff--clubs she created, clubs created in her name--that Yahoo! created a special club category just for her. Check out it out. It's Games > Role Playing Games > Club-Based > DDK, The.
- Nowaywins
Just moved to bigger digs. Packing up the dogs, the kids, the contents of the house, he moved across town--we are told--to a big rambling house with a huge yard that ought to make everyone happier. We understand there is even room in the new place to have a room set aside for computing and the Internet. Congratulations, Nowaywins!

An Animation Lession.

I have been asked to describe the creation of animated graphics. Experienced animated graphics users will probably want to skip this message although if you would like to add something to this description, please do so.
There are various modes of animation including: .avi, .mov, .gif. The simplest and most easy for most users to create is the animated .gif.
An animated gif is a series of images compressed into a single graphic file. The individual images are called frames or cells, depending on the software you are using for the compression. These images are like the frames in a movie--each depicting one part of a move or action and alotted a duration of appearance before the next image is loaded.

For example, a "simple stick man waving" might take three separate frames: image1=man arm left;
image2=man arm center; image3=man arm right. You would combine these in the instructions you
give to the software as "1, 2, 3, 2, loop" and allot each image a duration of appearance. "Loop" simply means repeat the sequence from the top. The more images in the series, the smoother the action will be; the shorter the duration, the faster.
However, there is a trade off. The more images or repeats of image before the "loop" instruction and the more complex each individual image (background, color, pixel strength), the larger the final compressed file will be in KB space and, of course, the longer the load time. It may begin slow and jerky as it loads the frames. Even though it is one file, each image in the file is recognized separately by your computer. And the wrong time durations of frame can make it flicker strangely--like watching a 16mm movie played on a super 8 projector if you could get the sprokets to match (btw, that's why silent movies look strange; wrong projector).
Anything more beyond this point will depend on the software you choose to create an animated gif. Some software only allows you to use the whole image; some, only the portion of the image you are animating. And there are various programs out there you can use. The two I recommend for both price and ease of use are:
Animation2 by Jasc., part of the Paint Shop Pro 6 package.

One of the things we hope sets CFC apart is that we like to keep the personal touch by periodically visiting your clubs, checking out what you might need, taking note on the excellent things you do, and writing you. We all need words of encouragement now and again. And, sometimes, we do run up against walls of declining interest that are frustrating. Sometimes, the right word at the right moment can help. And, we sure don't want you to start feeling like you're all alone out there.
Okay, so we're a little overdue in some clubs. But, we're also short handed. See, in order to do all that personal stuff, you got to keep a good founder/co-founder to member ratio. When we named Mistybunny to co-foundership, for example, it brought our ratio to a comfortable one to fifty. But, by the time she was installed on June 27th, we were already beginning to worry about being able to keep those numbers. And it's only getting worse (don't mistake us; we do want you in the family).
What we need is a few volunteers. People not only interested in helping out, but with an eye toward becoming a co-founder in here. Could that be you? If you're interested in becoming a co-founder in CFC--or if you would rather just help us by visiting clubs and writing a few reports on what you see--apply to ArrylT by sending him an e-mail to: arrylt@hotmail.com.
