Limitations
Playslip Pal is intended to ultimately be a truly universal printing
utility for virtually any kind of lottery game. This initial release of the
program covers quite a lot of that ground, but there are some important
limitations to be aware of. Most of these limitations are imposed by the
nature of the game itself or by the way certain lottery selection slips are
designed or laid out. Examine the following carefully to see if Playslip Pal
is going to work for your favourite game.
Supported Lottery Games
This version will ONLY work for almost any pick5 or pick6
game in the world and also the Super7 game played in Canada. This includes Powerball type
games with the provision noted under "Special Cases" below.
A list of game slips included with the program is on the
support page. Anything else
may or may not be supported in future releases.
Supported Slip Layouts
The program will work fine for the vast majority of selection slips in
use around the world today. However, research shows that some slips are
designed in very oddball or peculiar ways. These slips are very difficult to
deal with from a programming viewpoint. Work will continue on these, but for
the time being, certain slip layouts are disqualified for use with Playslip
Pal. If either of the following features are true, then the printing won't
work properly:
Any slip where the rows of number boxes have a leading offset or
indentation from the other rows. Luckily, there are very few of these. A
trailing offset is fine.
Any slip where the selection panels are grouped in 2's or 3's and have
variable spacing between them. The selection panels need to be separate
from each other and consistently spaced. Again, there are very few of
these.
Special Cases
Some of the biggest and most popular lotteries in the world are the ones
where the player selects an additional number that is usually called a
"Powerball" or "Megaball" or some such. This is very different from the more
common "bonus" number that the player doesn't select directly. These slips
always have an additional selection panel to the side or below the panel
where the main numbers are selected.
This version of the program will work fine for these games with the
provision that it will only print your selected main numbers (usually 5).
The extra number must be marked by hand. If you can accept this temporary
limitation, then the program will work perfectly well. A future release will
support these games fully.
Another special case is the type of slip where the player must fill in
the slip in multiples of 2 choices that are usually stacked one above the
other. In a case like this, you need to be playing enough picks to fill in
the slip entirely. So if the slip has a total of 10 selection panels, you
should only feed it a file that contains lines that are some multiple of 10.
Any extra picks that are less than 10 would need to be marked by hand. The
NY 6/59 slip fits this description.
Unfortunately, some lottery commissions in the true spirit of meanness
will not accept selection slips that have been mechanically printed. The
Texas 6/54 lottery explicitly states this right on the slip and no doubt
there are others in the world with such draconian policies. They should be
ashamed of themselves. 'nuff said.
What It Does And Doesn't Print
The program prints marks on the number selection boxes only. It
does not print marks in the myriad of other checkboxes on the slip such
as payment options, repeat play, advance play or any other options. There
are just too many variations to deal with. You will still need to mark these
options by hand but the vast bulk of the work has already been done.
Who Needs This Program?
Any serious lottery player that regularly plays more than just a few
picks at a time. If you are fed up with the time-consuming and tedious task
of marking dozens or even hundreds of slips by hand, then this program is a
must have. It will be especially useful to syndicates or groups of players
that may play a thousand or more picks at a time. Not only will Playslip Pal
print your selections effortlessly and quickly...keep in mind that it also
prints the numbers accurately, with no chance of mistakes brought on
by user inattention or fatigue.
The results checker, included as a bonus, is a great little program in
itself. All you have to do is punch in the results of the draw and you will
see exactly how many winners and losers you have
very rapidly. No
more checking each ticket by hand or waiting till the next day to have them
scanned by your retailer. Winner or loser, it's nice to know now.
