A Little About Myself

Well to start with I guess I can tell you that I was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. My mother took me home for one month from the hospital and then decided it would be in my best interest to place me for adoption. From there I was placed with a family in Chatham, New Brunswick, where I remained with my adopted family. My adoptive mom died when I was at the age of twelve, my adoptive father remarried and I set out on the road of my life at the age of fifteen. It was at that time that I moved to Prince Edward Island, Canada. I worked at various jobs for awhile, but eventually returned to school and went on to complete two years of college.

But then before I completed all that I felt a large part of my life was missing, such as my roots..... did I have any biological brothers and sisters, why was i kept for a month and then placed for adoption, who did I look like, and where did I get my unique characteristics? These and many more questions swam around in my thoughts from time to time, till I finally took some steps to get the answers I was seeking. It was a long road with many hurdles, as there is a shroud of secrecy that surrounds adoption, still to this day, but it is becoming a little more open in a few provinces here in Canada. It was in 1987 that set out to begin my search, it would not be an easy road. All I had was my birthname (which was more than a lot of adoptees have). I first registered with Post Adoption Services in New Brunswick. A year later I recieved from them what is called "non-identifying" information, but I did learn through this that I had a sister who was one year older than me. I then approached Parent Finders, New Brunswick. This is where I got the real help and support, but like I said it was still a long road. After five years of searching, we finally found what I was looking for. I was reunited with a sister and three brothers, all of which, never knew of my existance. By the time I had found them my birthmother had passed away in 1991, (while I was conducting my search).

Knowing the happiness that this had brought into my life, I wanted to help others who were also searching. Parent Finder's, New Brunswick, asked me if I would be interested in setting up a Parent Finders group for the Island. I jumped at the opportunity and have been assisting people now for the last three years. We have been relatively successful and have assisted in reuniting 70+ families.
