Adult Adoptees and adoptive parents can contact Adoption Disclosure Services for non-identifying information about the birthfamily.
If available this would include:
The information does not include identifying information, such as names and addresses of birth family members.
Birthparents can receive confirmation of an adoption and the juristiction in which the childs adoption took place.Information on the childs progress at the time of adoption will also be provided if available. Non-identifying on the adoptive family may be provided
The registry is a system whereby persons affected by an adoption may register their willingness to exchange information or have contact with each other.
If there is a match of names, the possibility of a reunion will be explored. A reunion will not occur without the mutual consent of both parties
If the match of names does not involve a birthparent, the probable or stated wishes of the birthparent will be considered before a reunion is arranged
Those who may asked to have their name placed on the registry are:
Adult Adoptees (those over 18 years of age)
Birthparents (birth mothers, birth fathers)
Birth Family Members (sister, brothers, etc.)
Adoptive Parents (in certain circumstances)
Significant Others (previous caregivers of the adoptee)
Adult Adoptees may request that a search be conducted for a birth parent by Adoption Disclosure Services. If the birthparent is located and agrees to a reunion, it will be arranged
If the birth parent is deceased, identifying information will be provided unless it is believed that significant harm would result.
A special search may be requested by adoptive parents or adult adoptees to aquire medical information for the diagnosis or treatment of a serious medical condition. Searches will not be undertaken for birthfaters if paternity is uncertain.
