"Three Days in the (Silicon) Valley" appeared in the summer of 1997 when Apple couldn't get its marketing act together. It spoke for a generation of Mac users who cried out in anguish, "Why doesn't Apple kick some marketing butt?" Since then, we've had smoked and steamrollered Pentiums and PowerBooks with Jaws. Still, alway remember this simple dictum: don't tax beer. Wait a minute, that's Al Bundy's. Our is: just say no to wimpy advertising. After I dropped out of GeoPlus in the Fall of 1997, the subdirectories disappeared and messed up the links. When GeoCities gave subdirectories to all its members, I brought the comix back. Apple's advertising packs more of a punch these days. It's not as frequent as it could be, however. Be careful, Apple! Ms. Marketing is watching you... Raymond Chandler wrote, "Down these mean streets a man must go who is not himself mean, who is neither tarnished or afraid." That lets me out. Still, I'll quote Chandler again and describe this story's locale as "hard-boiled... with no more personality than a paper cup." And Mira Sorvino, if you're reading this: for the love of God and ourselves, please spare us further details of your love life with Quentin Tarantino. Greed, fear, betrayal, violence, and lust come together in a twisted tale of marketing in an alternative universe. Click on a panel to advance to the next panel.
