Florida Grand Opera faust by charles gounod Saturday, January 18th, 2002, Miami Dade Auditorium & Thursday, January 24th, 2002, Broward Center for the Performing Arts Faust is one of my favorite French operas and although it was the most popular opera in the 19th century, it fell out of favor when Puccini came along and is now still performed but not as frequently. And it is interesting to note that in the past it was almost always presented in Italian outside of France naturally. The production directed by Bernard Uzan, designed by Uzan/Claude Girard was excellent. I was really surprised. The sets were very traditional and worked very well specially Acts II & III. The production was so good and with so many details I decided to break this review in two sections: Faust Production (Click on the link to the left) Faust Cast (Click on the link to the left) In sum, a good and enjoyable performance specially because of the discovery of a promising soprano.
