The Elf Game

About six months ago a group of (mostly) human adventurers searched for, discovered and explored the ruins of the ancient elven City of Lore, Myrendell. Before the Seuloise Invoked Devastation, Myrendell was the home of the greatest collection of knowledge on Oerth. In the city's libraries, the explorers found much forgotten knowledge of the elves, including it would seem, histories on previous mind flayer attacks. The texts detailed several attempted invasions at different points throughout the world's history. Notable within the narrative is a message to contact the Elven Armada when the illithid attempt this again...

The nature of the Elven Armada is unknown. Supposedly, the mind flayer host is no match for this Armada. Instructions were left on how to reach this Armada. Although most of this information is intact, having survived over 1,000 years, some of the references and allusions made within the text are ambiguous or unknown.

In the Tower of Knowledge was a "kit" for contacting the Armada. The kit contained an extremely detailed magical drawing of a grove of strange thorns and vines. This drawing even changed as if from day to night. With the drawing was a scroll of teleport without error and instructions to use the two scrolls to journey to Simril Grove and contact the Lil. At the center of the grove will be Starlight's Hope. Only elves could make this journey. All other references and information about this kit were vague or made reference to lore no longer known.

After nearly six months of constant inspection by the greatest living elven scholars, the Council of Elves agreed to take action. Recently, the mind flayer nautiloids have returned and taken up locations about the skies of Oerth. A large party of powerful elves was assembled to use the scroll and determine how to contact this Armada. The adventurers were cautioned that they will probably be out of contact for the duration of their adventure and should prepare accordingly. These elves, however, may be Oerth's last hope for dealing with the illithid threat...

Aarondella Nimrith-Drake archer / bard 7th / 9th high elf
Alex Oakwood archer-ranger 5th wood elf
Elderan Arrowflight archer / mage 6th / 6th high elf
Farseeker Deraris ranger 6th wood elf
Kamendalil Pathfinder scout 6th wood elf
Liam Birchwood fighter 6th wild elf
Sonora Firestar cleric 5th wood elf
Sorash Sharksbane mage 7th sea elf
Zarabell Finelock cleric / fighter 7th / 6th psionic half-elf

Sorash used the scroll to whisk himself and his itemized companions to Simril grove. Unfortunately, the scroll was a bit beyond the sea elf's power; the group appeared scattered across a large clearing. Disoriented and dazed, the elves quickly discovered themselves on the surface of Luna within sight of the ruins of the lunar elven city. Before them was a thick, dense thorny tangle rivaling Sleeping Beauty's castle.

The adventurers didn't have time for sight-seeing, however, as they were suddenly attacked by a large host of strange plant creatures. Huge, green, humanoid vine-creatures, these monsters attacked the elves without mercy or quarter. Sucking the blood out of their bodies with long, flexible vine-arms, these creatures nearly finished the heroes. After several minutes, the battled ended with no elf unscathed and most near death. Using up the majority of their healing spells and berries, the party moved on.

Entering the thick tangle of brambles and vines before them, the elves soon came into contact with the lil, a race of pixie. The lil stand less than a foot tall and glow constantly. They possess the childlike attention of their Oeridian cousins, but telepathic abilities on par with the illithid. Linked together by a sort of "collective consciousness" the lil are able to learn from one another wherever they dwell. Unfortunately, the illithid used this ability to their own advantage, placing the suggestion that all the elves were dead. Believing this, the lil challenged the party as impostors.

Elderan and Sonora were able to convince the lil to avoid combat. The lil agreed to let the elves pass and would neither aid nor hinder them in their attempt to find "the secret" in the center of the grove; "the meeting place". Exploring a winding maze of thorny brambles the adventurers made their way to this center. En route they discovered elven-made treasure caches predating the royal bloodline of Celene. They also discovered (the hard way - ouch!) the nature of the lil's legendary light lance -- together four lil can channel their glowing magic into a devastating ray of burning light! No wonder the mind flayer couldn't get into the grove!

The elves arrived at the grove and soon discovered a secret cache behind a concealed wall of brambles. Within the cache they found several chests of weapons and magic potions. Also within was a vine-shrouded object. As Aarondella made ready to touch it, however, a short, strange, rune-covered iron golem-like creature appeared. The creature warned the party to stay away from its charge on punishment of death. Those that approached were warned again to "show the proof or die." Elderan took this time to read the magical runes upon the iron creature. It is a "wrecker, one of sixteen chosen to protect. Battle one and you battle them all." Already badly wounded and their spells spent, the elves retired to regroup, recover and rethink for their next move...

The next morning, the elves explored the entirety of the tangles of the lil. They battled several more guardian plants (killing none) and uncovered two more caches left by the elves of old. In one of the caches, in fact, the party recovered the coochee, Leldrin, who adopted Alex as his master. Returning without any "proof" the elves attempted to reach the flitter. Touching it, Aarondella dispelled the statis-preserve effect and activated a visual message from the ancient elven queen, Leldariline Silverbrow. The iron golem-like creature halted its attempt to kill Aarondella, but continued to guard the flitter. The elves, hesitant about battling the wrecker, fell back to ponder a better move.

The third morning, Zarabell remembered a signet ring Toliver found while exploring the city of Myrendell. The ring bore the ancient royal symbol found throughout the tangles. Sorash used the scroll of sending to send a message to Aelerin Graycloak and inform of the situation. Using an enchanted gate from Myrendell to Luna Zarabell and Mirkquin discovered, Aelerin, Hannok, Mirkquin and Toliver joined the heroes on the moon. Using the ring, Toliver bypassed the wrecker and the groups reached the elven flitter, Starlight's Hope.

Now which elf will fly this beautiful "butterfly ship" to reach the elven peoples among the stars?

And what of the other flitter on Celene...? The elven colony on Titan...? The remnants of the lunar elves...? (Elf Game II?)
