Benjamin Franklin HUFF

Benjamin moved from Pennsylvania with his family to Wisconson. The family
settled near Buck Grove Iowa, which is a short distance from Dennison, in
Crawford County. Benjamin then married Olive In Dennison. Benjamin and
Olive framedin Crawford Co. until they moved by immigrant train to
Villard Township, arriving at Philbrook, Minnesota on Dec. 5, 1902. The
family left Iowa due to high land prices and high taxes. Benjamin
purchased an 80 acre farm, and decided this was just what he wanted. the
house on 80 acres was a long ways from the road and was only a small
house. After arriving here the family immediatly set about moving the
house closer to the road, with the intentions of building on. It was a
day in December of 1902 that the house finally momved to the new
location. Night arrives, and so did one of Minnasota's blizzards. The
house rocked and shook. The family had a difficult time to keep from
freezing. When the storm subsided they banked the house with hay and snow
and there it remained until spring. In the spring it was lowered to the
ground, and an addition was built. No foundation was ever put under the
house. The house stood at this location until his grandson, Glen, tore it
down in the fall of 1979. Arriving in Philbrook the family continued to
farm.  Shortly after arriving at Philbrook, Benjamin was ordained to the
ministry at a Methodist conference at Fergus Fall, Minn. I examined a
copy my father has on file in his history material of the original
certificate signed by the president of the district of Alexandria on the
12 day of June 1913. The certificate said to whom this may concern, This
certifies that, being acquainted with the gifts, grace, and usefulness
Brother B.F. Huff, and he being duly recommended, we judge that heis a
suitable person to be licensed as a local preacher in the Methodist
Episcopal Church and we strongly aurthorize him to preach the gospel,
subject to the Discipline of the Church. Although he was ordained as a
Methodist, he preached whereever there was a call to do so. These meeting
were held in the evening after the farming. It appears that Benjamin
became an invalid at the age of 62, until he died at 82. His legs had
began to give him trouble long brfore he became an invalid. He managed
too get around some on his own and do some limited farming, cattle and
sheep raising and poultry.[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 4, Ed. 1, Tree #1822, Date
