Rebecca Holte - Desert Tortoise Research

Variations in courtship behaviors of the desert tortoise, Gopherus agassizii, in the Eastern Mojave Desert

I tested four hypotheses for my master's thesis:

  1. Male courtship behavior changes with increased courtship experience.

  2. Variation in courtship behaviors between individuals results from differences in male size.

  3. Male tortoises alter their courtship behaviors depending on the size of the female encountered.

  4. Successful matings are the result of different courtship behaviors than unsuccessful matings.

Results will be posted at a later time; until then, results are available from Rebecca Holte (e-mail at bottom of this page).

I have strong interests in animal behavior and conservation biology.

[In the future...Look for a video clip here of some headbobbing!]
