Rebecca Holte - Desert Tortoise Research
Variations in courtship behaviors of the desert tortoise, Gopherus agassizii, in the Eastern Mojave Desert
I tested four hypotheses for my master's thesis:
- Male courtship behavior changes with increased courtship experience.
- Variation in courtship behaviors between individuals results from differences in male size.
- Male tortoises alter their courtship behaviors depending on the size of the female encountered.
- Successful matings are the result of different courtship behaviors than unsuccessful matings.
Results will be posted at a later time; until then, results are available from Rebecca Holte (e-mail at bottom of this page).
I have strong interests in animal behavior and conservation biology.
[In the future...Look for a video clip here of some headbobbing!]
