Our Programs and Projects:
Community Organizing Development Program
Formerly called the Community-Based Resource Management Program, tasked with carrying the strategy from which it was named, by means of community trainings, organizational building and leadership skills enhancement program. This program has succeeded in protecting resources in different parts of the Philippines, among these projects are:
Science and Research Development Program (SRDP)
In an effort to improve Haribon's scientific research capability as a ground for its resource conservation initiatives, this program has continued its involvement in biodiversity conservation and alternative technology training for fisherfolk as well as deepened its commitment to marine and forest resource concerns. Some of the ongoing projects include:
- Conservation Status of Philippine Birds
- Sea Horse Biology and Conservation Status
Wildlife Population Study of the Philippine Eagle
Tanggol-Kalikasan
Since 1994, this legal defense program has conducted a total of 34 paralegal training activities involving 1,000 people nationwide. Ten environmental paralegal teams composed of graduates based in local communities in Regions 3,4, and 5 was a result of these trainings. These teams assist authorities in the enforcement and prosecution of environmental cases.
As part of its information and education strategy, Tanggol Kalikasan produced a total of 18 factsheets which are one-page statements on topics which are worthy of the public's attention and concrete positive governmental action have been written and disseminated. Publications such as the Environmental Law Handbook, Local Government Code Primer, Citizen's Primer on Air Pollution, and a Training Manual on Environmental Law for POs, NGOs, and LGUs have been published.

Membership and Chapter Development Program
Haribon endeavors to organize, mobilize and educate the Filipino to pursue the vision of sustainable development. Through this program Haribon has maintained a direct membership of professionals among whom are academicians, doctors, entrepreneurs, housewives, mountaineers, office workers, scientists, scuba divers, and teachers. Haribon also has chapters in various parts of the country composed of committed individuals who volunteer their time and resources for conservation work.
Our Mission
The Haribon Foundation seeks to actively work and contribute to sustainable development by:
Promoting and undertaking community-based resource management strategies in specific sites;
Conducting scientific and socio-economic researches on natural ecosystems for the benefit of Filipino communities and promoting sustainable approaches to development; and
Raising the national consiousness on sutainable development to promote a constituency for environmnetal issues and membership for Haribon.
Financial Resource Development Program (FRDP)
We continue to develop effective institutional fund-raising strategies to support our programs. Resources
are either sourced locally or through grants from international conservation groups.
Information and Publications Program (IPP)
We seek to provide the general public with information through fora, publications and lectures geared
toward developing people's enivronmental sensibility. Our publications include the Haribon Update, the Enviroscope and the Philippine Biodiversity Newsletter.
Members of Haribon and the general public can avail of more than 10,000 published and unpublished materials as well as
audio-visuals on the Philippine and global environment in its Environmental Resource Library. IPP also provides technical
support to interested individuals, organizations and agencies.
Advocacy and Networking Program (ANP)
We conduct research and policy studies with a view towards influencing policy formulation. Our process
is largely participatory and consultative.
Public awareness campaigns on relevant issues are also done regularly to inform and educate the public.
