Pepper Buddha's Garden Page

Updated January 15, 2000. I need to take more pictures.

What I grow...

Habaneros!
**********HOT! I grow orange habs and Caribbean Red. I probably don't get as many peppers here in NY as I would somewhere warmer. I get enough for me and a few of my more daring friends.

Scotch Bonnet!
*********HOT! Good heat and production, different shape. They are thinner skinned than Habs, dried nicely. I didn't intend to dry them, but Beastie (#3 cat) thought they were great toys. I found them in my boot dried out but intact.

Thai Dragons!
********Hot! I grow Burpee Thai Dragon Hybrids. I get plenty of large, hot peppers. These are the best for spicy cooking. Hot but edible. I will cut them very small when I cook. My wife leaves them whole so she can pull them out when she cooks. I usually get enough extra to make my own pepper spray to keep the squirrels away from my sunflowers. Excellent production, dry very well.

Cayennes!
*******Hot! Keep these away from Thai Dragons, it is hard to tell them apart. Use the same as Thai Dragons.

Bishop's Crown!
******HOT! Not the hottest, but neat shape.

Bishop's Crown

Jalapenos!
*****Hot. I grow a lot of jalapenos. They don't produce as many per plant as the Thai Dragons, so I grow twice as many plants. Jalapenos have the best mix of heat/flavor/pain. We use these the most. 1 or 2 on a cheese steak, Yummy! I have brought 8 Jalapeno plants inside the house. I have to keep them in the basement under flourescent grow lites. They weren't as healthy as they were outside, but they had a dozen Jalapenos on them in February.

Big Jim Chiles!
*Barely hot. I grew a dozen plants and ended up with about a hundred huge chile peppers. I was happy with the production but they just didn't have enough heat. I used some for color in my cooking. I gave away most of these. Since they weren't very hot a lot of people would eat them.

Tomatoes!
I grew 7 different types of tomatoes in 1997.
I grew 10 different types of tomatoes in 1998.
I grew 3 different types of tomatoes in 1999.

Flowers!
I grow many different sunflowers, snapdragons, marigolds, pansies and petunias.
