Coral Reefs are the most extraordinaire constructions
made by a living creature.

And Human Beings are the only other creatures
that can help them to survive



WHO IS HIDDING IN THE REEF?

POLIP

This is the name of the tiny creature that, through thousands of years, working very hard, have been created the wonderful coral reefs.

Polip Secreting calcium carbonate, built their home together with other polips, making a COLONY.

Polips in a colony are connected together, so when one polip is affected in any way, the neighbors react instantly.

There are hard and soft corals, hards feeding almost exclusively during the night, softs all day and night long.

In the Caribbean side of Panama there are more diversity in coral species than in the Pacific side, where one of the species dominates 85% of the reefs space.

Coral polips are voracious predators that feed in the plancton and food particles in the waters that surround de coral reef.

These uw cities are very important because many creatures use caves and crevices to protect from predators or to find food.

Also for regions where the tourism is the last alternative, coral reefs offer to the visitors a kind of fantastic show well appreciatted by snorkellers and divers.

Sponge

Sponges are one of the other main attractions in the reef
