What is the Lane Cove River Catchment Management Committee ?

The Lane Cove River Catchment Management Committee (LCRCMC) was set up to promote and facilitate Total Catchment Management (TCM). TCM is a partnership of the government and community working together for a productive future for NSW. It is about preserving our land, water, plant and animal life.

Our aim as the LCRCMC is to identify key issues of concern in the catchment and determine a strategy to better manage this vast area of the North Shore of Sydney Harbour. Our major goal is:

"To ensure that land, water and other natural resources in the catchment of the Lane Cove River are managed in a way that provides a high quality environment, which will support a diverse range of ecosystems."

Our major strategies deal with issues of water quality, land use, education, participation and inter-agency cooperation within the cathcment.

From the Chairperson

Welcome to the first newsletter from the Lane Cove River Catchment Management Committee (LCRCMC). The purpose of the newsletter is to inform the Lane Cove River Catchment Community of the strategies and projects initiated and developed by the Committee.

Our catchment covers a vast area of the north Shore of Sydney Harbour and includes part of seven local government areas.

These councils and various government departments, along with community representatives, have contributed greatly to the development of the LCRCMC since its appointment in 1991. There already have been a number of significant achievements and plans to better manage the catchment.

We welcome your thoughts on catchment management and hope that this newsletter will inspire and encourage you to participate in greater community involvement.
