Summary: Water quality in this sub-catchment is fair. Monitoring in wet and dry conditions has shown low faecal coliform counts indicating that sewage is contained in the reticulation system, there are low dissolved solids and the water is well aerated. However, this may be due to tidal flushing since the site is estuarine. Phosphorus levels are still very high.
Issues: This sub-catchment is almost entirely residential so much of the phosphorus load is likely to be derived from household gardens. Also, there are a large proportion of waterfront properties who have historically had self contained septic systems. Some of these may still be in operation.
Knowledge Gaps: Sewerage and stormwater information is scarce. Water quality data is only taken at the bay and may be diluted and effected by tidal flushing.
Recommendations: Some investigation into the number of septic systems still in operation may be warranted as these point sources of pollution may be significant yet hard to detect by sampling.
