Summary: Water quality in this sub-catchment is fair. It is based on a large number of samples over a long period and includes wet weather sampling. However, the Lane Cove Siphon overflows in this sub-catchment during most storm events and discharges large volumes of sewer overflow. Its effect is much diminished due to the effects of tidal flushing (this is why DO levels and dissolved solids comply with ANZECC guidelines).

Issues: The frequent discharge of the Lane Cove siphon is an important issue in the catchment. However, the northside storage tunnel currently under construction will accommodate much of this overflow.

Knowledge Gaps: The presence of sewage will be better detected with correctly performed ammonia tests. Otherwise, knowledge of stormwater and sewerage in this sub-catchment is thorough.

Recommendations: Monitoring should continue in order to assess the effectiveness of the northside storage tunnel.
