The collection

This is a representative sample of a collection of local moths and butterflies. Many of these can be attracted to your own back yard by cultivating the types of plants which are their food supplies. Often the caterpillars which hatch from the 100-500 eggs in each batch are considered garden pests, but with a little patience you can watch them transform from the "worms" which eat your prized plants into prizes in their own right. Normally only about 1/100 offspring will survive to adulthood. With a bit of care and forethought you can save many of them from predators and preserve them into a collection which showcases the beauty and diversity of life in the insect world.

An alternative to collecting the insects themselves is to collect photographs which show their beauty, but are far easier to preserve and store than the insects themselves. Individual images of these and a wide variety of other insects are available in a broad range of formats: from hi-res digital images, to color prints suitable for framing, to 24"x36" transparencies.
