DISCLAIMER!
The individuals who are in Raccoonotter's homepage will seem to appear as tame pets. In reality, they can be quite the opposite. Both raccoons and otters, like any other non-domestic animals, require much more attention than most people are willing to give. Keeping one in captivity, whether in a professional (zoo, etc.) or private setting, is like having a second full-time job. They are very destructive to an ordinary household, they require specialized diets and veterinary care, and in most states, they are not allowed as pets at all, and they require a possesion permit in some others. It would have to be a very unusual person who would have adequate energy, much patience, a great deal of understanding and time, perhaps a bit of foolishness, and much dedication in order to keep such an animal in captivity, happy, and healthy. Anything less would be unfair for both "pets" and humans. One of the likely results of such an arrangement, besides the rewarding experience, would be to simply enjoy having such an animal in his/her life. Another result of such an arrangement is that a considerable amount of knowledge about such animals can then be learned, enhancing our understanding of the other creatures around us. All of the animals here have been cared for by people who otherwise have had the determination and love to provide for them and all their needs, and put up with the daily problems of co-existance. At best, it's kind of like having a 1 1/2 to 2 year old child (with sharp teeth) who will never grow up. (Sleep or web-design, anyone?).
