Defenders of the RainForest was started in 1995 by a group of teenagers who felt that the world they lived in will be left to them in ruins if they didn't do something to stop the destruction of the rainforest.
The rainforest is the most important ecosystem, providing the earth 50% of its oxygen and 90% of the animals, the lose of such an amazing thing would mean death to the planet.
At first we didn't exactly know what to do. We felt that all the destruction was going on far far away and therefore we could do nothing to stop it.
But reading on the different techniques people have used to promote change we decided that we could.
The most important thing we deciced we could do was to educate ourselves on the importance of the rainforest. Knowledge is power!
Going apon this principle we put together a slide show presentation and we showed it to local schools. Children responded very well to it and we knew that we were making a difference.
Mostly everything we do is education, weither it be protesting, fliering, making a website, or showing a slideshow presentation. Education is the key to saving the rainforest.
