ANNUAL MEETING
The Chapter's Annual Meeting, "Managing Animal Waste in a Changing World", will be held on Thursday and Friday, February 1-2, 2001 at the Sheraton Hotel in Billings. The purpose of the conference is to serve as an information forum between an audience of resource professionals, livestock operators and technical specialists on issues surrounding the use and management of animal waste. The goal is to provide participants with the "tools" to evaluate the potential impacts of livestock feeding operations and to develop economically feasible options that protect soil and water resource values. The Montana Association of Conservation District (MACD) has monies available from a 319 grant to cover registration and lodging costs for those needing assistance. Contact Tom Pick at 444-4765 for more information. An agenda and registration form is enclosed for your review and is also on the Chapter's website http://www.geocities.com/mtswcs Pre-registration for the conference is due by January 8, 2001. Be sure not to miss this interesting and informative conference.

Several positions on the Chapter's Board of Directors are up for election at the 2001 Annual Meeting. Please take a moment to read through the following candidate biographies and take the time to vote for the candidate of your choice. (This isn't Florida, one hand count will work and the new officers will be announced at the Annual Meeting on February 1, 2001).
There has been a general membership meeting scheduled for February 1, 2001. This meeting will take place during the Animal Waste Conference at the Sheraton Hotel in Billings. We will be meeting at 5:30 p.m. following the Thursday conference agenda for an hour. Following our membership meeting will be a Social and Silent Auction.
The focus of the membership meeting will be on SWCS Chapter activities and services. The Board of Directors wants to know what types of activities and services the members expect from the Chapter. Do we want to organize and sponsor technical workshops to meet the training needs of our membership? Establish a list server to distribute information to the Chapter members in a timelier manner? Sponsor special events, demonstrations, publications, etc.? These are questions that the Board of Directors would like you to help us answer.
During the conference registration, a questionnaire will be given to current SWCS members for their input. This input will then be the foundation for our discussion at the membership meeting late Thursday afternoon. The feedback received at the meeting will become the basis for an up-dated Long-Range Plan.
