This is the age of the end of reason.

Posturing is becoming almost everything.

Because of things becoming more and more "instant" and short term, people are becoming disconnected from the past. This is also caused by people failing to mature, failing to become "adult". People are not feeling that they are becoming significantly more able and secure as they grow older. The links to their parents where the person is over 40 are now very tenuous - their values seem alien - somehow better and somehow worse. The confusion is growing in the western world as it changes fundamentally in shorter and shorter time frames.
In reality everything you want has to be earned but in a world where children are constantly given things this fact becomes utterly blurred. The idea that you must earn something fades.
The Walt Disney fantasy concept of the world whereby you simply expect things to be there for you has been inbred into the children. This was no fault of theirs and perhaps not even of their parents. We all seem to be victims of some societal force telling us to 'buy'. The all-pervasive merchandising systems simply become part of your everyday reality. This is especially true when your parents are intent on creating a cocoon for you, a perfect safe-zone. This is done partly because of the actual increasing threat levels from inner-city life, drugs, pollution, crime, etc. and partially due to the materialist ethic that your goal of a perfectly semi-detached existence is your ultimate goal. Perfect lawns, clean shiny shopping malls, holidays in the sun and wonderful retirement pension. It's all built in, just keep running along this same sheep-track. You'll emerge unscathed into a woolly, safe heaven.
At the time of greatest danger people demand perfect safety. People seek to convince themselves and their children that all is well in this safe clean Walt Disney world. But this world is long gone if it ever existed at all and is being sped on its way by the 'Buy all you can have' culture.
Go to the Mall, to the Theme Parks, to McDonalds, the Leisure Complex. Believe in the movies you see and the sermons you hear in church. Meanwhile micro atomic bombs in the hands of terrorists are only years away. Meanwhile bacteria becomes ever more resistant to antibiotics. Meanwhile Bosnia, Somalia, Uganda. Meanwhile cancers continue to increase in line with the artificiality of our foods and environment. Lead poisoning, asbestosis, tobacco, power-line radiation, nuclear accidents... The possibilities for threat in this material-oriented culture will rise inexorably. A bi-product is the rise in human shallowness and stupidity and gives rise to ever more accidents caused by inattention and inadequate maintenance of machinery, planes, weapons, etc.
People confused, unable to relate clearly with the real world around them, fed on fantasy are TRULY dangerous.
Welcome to FutureWorld. Live happily ever after or starve outside this luxury system. Within it stress will come to be solved with fantasy. But if reality intrudes - you're DEAD.
