Each of these characters played a very important part in Highlander. Tessa was Duncan's love for many years, until a random act of violence ripped her from his life. It is through her eyes that we initially saw what the life of an Immortal was like, for as she learned more about Immortals, so did we. Tessa played an integral part in making Duncan who he was.
Amanda is another Immortal who has known Duncan for a few centuries and pops in and out of his life, often times bringing trouble with her. Duncan and Amanda have a special love for each other, which was revealed in the final episode when Duncan tells her, "You make my heart glad. You always have."
