Letter to the Editor Strict Enforcement on Illegal Dumping Kuala Lumpur, 12 July 1999 The Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) welcomes the move of Menteri Besar YAB Datuk Seri Abu Hassan Omar, in directing the State Department of Environment (DOE) to act quickly against the alleged Dipsol Chemicals (M) Sdn Bhd, caught for burying what was reported to be toxic waste on its premises at the Teluk Panglima Garang Industrial estate, Kuala Langat. Swift and strict enforcement of the Environmental Quality Act 1976, pertaining to scheduled wastes is necessary to safeguard the public interest, the environment and to serve as a deterrent to potential violators. The enforcement aspect of legislation needs to be reinforced continously through firm action to give effect to Environmental Protection Laws. Dato' Dr Salleh Mohd Nor President
