Cave Group

Over the next one year, the Kedah Branch Cave Group is planning to venture out of 
Perlis where most of its activities have been over the last few years. Its not because all the 
caves been explored. On the contrary. There is still much to do in Perlis and we are not 
abandoning Perlis. Far from it. There is a need to explore the other caves around our area 
to know the other limestone areas in our part of Malaysia.

There are many caves in the northwestern area of Peninsular Malaysia still not 
thoroughly investigated and documented. These areas are:

1. The Langkawi Islands
2. Baling/Pengkalan Hulu areas
3. Lenggong in Perak
4. The Kodiang Hills in Northern Kedah
5. Gunong Keriang near Alor Setar
6. Scattered hills in the Grik area
7. Scattered hills in the Lenggong area, Perak.
8. Thaleban NP, Thailand
9. Tarotau NP, Thailand

Of these, we have done some investigations in Langkawi and have found, explored and 
survey caves there. We will keep going to Langkawi over the next one year. Gunong 
Keriang has been visited and one cave explored but not surveyed. The hills of the 
Kodiang area was visited before but the caves were not entered. Baling/Pengkalan Hulu 
and Grik are still unknown at least to me. This is where I'd like to put some serious effort 
to investigate further. In addition, we would like to check the caves of Thaleban National 
Park, Thailand.

There is a lot of work to do but as usual, there are not enough people. Keep a lookout in

Adv - Advance Skills, prior caving experience needed, group normally small.

are free for members unless indicated. Pay out of pocket expenses and share transport 
costs. Non-members are charged RM20 on top of other charges/expenses.
