Chapter Thirty Six

Kissing You

The next morning, I was getting some breakfast when the phone rang.
‘Hello?’
‘Hi babe! It’s Tay!’
‘Well, dur! How many other people call me that?’
‘I hope not any! Anyway, me, Ike and Mark and that are going down to the mall. Wanna come?’
‘Sure. What time will I meet you there?’
‘Oh, Ike’s driving so we’ll pick you up on the way, k?’
‘Sure. See-ya then!’
‘Bye!’
I hung up and went to change.
I put on my new hipsters and Calvin Klein body-shirt and silver Doc’s.
[note from author: which i noe really have! they are so cool he he! end of note] I checked to make sure I had some money and went outside to wait for Tay and Ike.
They arrived a few minutes later and we took off towards Glenpool Plaza.
It was a really cool mall, three floors of shops and a whole other floor of cinemas and entertainment like arcades. There was even a roller-skating rink.
When we arrived, Ike told us that Mark, Sarah, Louise and a few others were going to meet us upstairs somewhere.
We wandered up the ‘West Side Promenade’ (just a fancy name for part of the mall) and up the escalators to the second floor.
It wasn’t hard to recognize our friends, they were milling around outside the Gap flicking things at the people on the level below and making a lot of noise.
‘Hey guys! What’s up?’ Ike called as we got to them.
‘Not much. How ya’s doing?’ Mark came and slapped Ike on the back in a friendly fashion.
Tay immediately got caught up in the firing things at people and Ike got talking to Mark so I wandered over to Sarah, Louise and a few others.
‘Hey!’
‘Hi Peta! We were just about to go for a walk, wanna come?’
‘Sure. But can we go to the Gap? I need a new jacket.’
‘Yeah, but I thought it’d be better if we start at the bottom and make our way up.’
‘Sound’s cool. Let’s go!’
We wandered down to the bottom level and browsed around some stores, Sanity Music where Sarah wanted to chat up the guy behind the counter.
He was a little interested but I think he was a bit disappointed it wasn’t Kate.
After Sanity, we headed towards the food court where I spotted Zac.
I was just about to call out to him before I saw him sit down at a table with a busty girl a little older than him.
I thought I’d better not embarrass the poor boy.
I was going to leave it at that but unfortunately for Zac, Sarah spotted him.
‘Who the hell is Zac with?’ she asked rather loudly.
I motioned for her to keep quiet but she was in the mood to have a little fun.
‘Come on, lets spy on Zachie and his little girl!’ she grinned and pulled me behind a pillar just within earshot of Zac’s table.
‘Sarah! Leave him alone!’ I told her, trying to leave.
‘Shhh! I can hear ‘em! Besides, if you leave he’ll see you.’
Reluctantly I stood behind the pillar and eavesdropped on Zac and the girl I recognized up close as Tahlia.
‘So, uh, you wanna go to the pinball arcade?’ Zac squirmed in his chair.
Tahlia looked bored.
‘No. I’m not into video games.’
‘Ok……well, um, you wanna go to the park and shot some hoops?’
‘Zac. I’m wearing a dress.’ She rolled her eyes.
Zac slumped a little.
‘Well, then what do you want to do?’
‘I don’t know.’ Tahlia replied in a bored voice.
That seemed to be the last straw for Zac and he stood up.
‘Look, I don’t know what you’re problem is! You agreed to come here with me and all you’ve done the whole time is complain! I really liked you but now I just think you’re a snob! I’m going home!’ and he stood up and left a bewildered Tahlia looking after him.
I felt a bit sorry for the both of them, but Sarah thought it was hilarious.
As soon as Zac had left, she burst out laughing so loud, people around starting giving us dirty looks.
‘Sar!’ I hissed at her.
‘Did you see that? That was sooo funny!’ she doubled over.
‘No it wasn’t! Now shut up! Everyone’s looking at us!’
But she was gone and in the end I had to leave.
I headed off in search of the others leaving her to catch up.
About half an hour later, we caught up with the guys and Tay wanted to go to the Gap too so he and I went by ourselves.
I bought a cool purple cord jacket and Tay got a silver shirt.
As we were leaving, we almost ran into Zac who was striding along like a man on a mission.
‘Oh hey Zac! Whatcha doin’?’ Tay asked.
‘Can’t talk. I have to find Tahlia.’
‘What’s up buddy? Lovers tiff?’
‘Whatever, just get out of my way.’
Watching Zac striding off down the mall, Tay asked,
‘What was that all about?’
I had to fill him in.
Later that day as we were walking around the mall, we spotted Zac and Tahlia sitting on a bench holding hands.
He looked up as we passed and flashed us a huge grin.
We also spotted Will.
‘Hey Peta! Tay! How’s it going?’
‘Will! I thought you were out of town this weekend.’
‘Nah, the audition got postponed ‘til next week.’ He explained.
‘What were you going for?’ Tay asked.
‘A part in the new Jennifer Aniston movie.’
Tay’s eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.
‘Jennifer Aniston?’ he squeaked.
I snickered.
‘Yeah. You a big fan?’
Tay could only nod.
‘I though you would have met her by now.’
Tay could now only shake his head.
Just then, Tay’s best friend Ryan called him over.
After he’d left, Will asked,
