'I love you. I have since the first time I saw you. I only hope by telling you this I don't ruin our friendship. I hold you deep in my heart and I value your friendship more than anything, it's just, well, I want more.' He couldn't hold my gaze.
'Tay, I…..' I couldn't help it, I burst out crying.
'Peta! I am so sorry! God, I knew I would blow it! I knew it! God, I wish I could take it back! I really do, because I need you to be my friend! I need you! But I can't take it back because it's the truest thing I have ever said, and even if I did take it back, it wouldn't change the way I feel about you. Nothing could change the way I feel about you. I love you and I am sorry if I said the wrong thing. I know I love you, but I need your friendship more. Can you forgive me?' a tear slipped down his cheek.
I managed to choke out.
'Don't take it back Tay. That's the last thing I want.'
'What do you mean?'
'Don't take it back, I, what you said, I mean. What I'm trying to say is that, I love you too, Tay.'
He looked a little surprised.
'You? Really?'
'Really. I value our friendship more than anything but I can't hide my feelings anymore either.'
We looked at each other for what seemed like an eternity before he pulled me close.
'I have wanted to hear that for three months.' He whispered.
I could only nod in agreement.
We sat like that for a while before it started to get cold and we went inside.
Needless to say, I had very pleasant dreams that night!
The next morning I awoke to the sun pouring in the window and Tay sleeping peacefully in his bed.
I decided not to wake him and quietly gathered some things to have a shower.
While I let the warm water soothe me, I remembered last night and a nice little shiver ran down my spine.
Taylor Hanson, my best friend, had just told me what I had been wanting to hear since I had met him. And I was very happy.
When I returned from my shower, Tay was up and sitting on his window seat looking out the window.
'Hey!' he called as I walked in.
'Good morning! Sleep well?'
'You bet! You? You know, the floor isn't as hard as you thought!' he stood up and ran his hands through his soft blonde hair.
'Yeah, it's not bad. Shower's free.' I told him.
'Thanks.' He started to gather up his things.
'Oh, Peta?'
'Yeah?'
'I, uh, just wanted you to know I meant everything I said last night.' he blushed and looked to the floor.
'I know Tay.' I told him and lightly squeezed his hand.
I left Tay to his shower and went downstairs for some breakfast. Everyone else was up.
When Tay came down, Diana produced some freshly cooked toast and orange juice.
The whole way through breakfast, we talked and laughed non-stop.
