Garuda figures extensively in the Bali Hindu creation story, and was the younger brother of Arjuna, charioteer of the sun. Successfully rescuing his mother from slavery, Garuda plays a key role in the ongoing battle between the Gods and the Demons, the forces of good and evil and is revered accordingly.
