Garuda Dancer

Kompiang, founder of the world-renowned Semara Ratih dance troupe in Ubud, performs the traditonal role of Garuda. A mythical creature of bird-like form, Garuda figures prominently in Hindu epics and, as the vehicle of the God Wisnu (Vishnu) has given its name to Indonesia's National Airline.
