Cairns to host two major International Indigenous health and healing Conferences in 2004
Cairns the tropical centre of Australia will host two of the worlds largest Indigenous Conferences this September focusing on health and healing issues.

The 5th International Healing Our Spirit Worldwide Summit, on Alcohol and Substance Misuse for Indigenous People, will run from 1 to 5 September 2004.
The National Indigenous Substance Misuse Council and the Aboriginal Drug and Alcohol Council (SA) Inc. are co-hosting this important conference.The conference will focus on the concept of healing, the health care of Indigenous people and the development of a submission to the United Nations forum on Indigenous people.

The 6th International Diabetes and Blindness Conference for Indigenous Peoples will be held from 7 to 10 September 2004.
Titled The Dreaming Together Experience, the conference is designed to further enhance the nowledge of health professionals, health workers and the wider community. This as an opportunity for all peoples in every walk of life, from those writing the policies to those living them to attend.

These are exciting forums and a great opportunity to share your research, and network with like-minded individuals.
The calling for abstracts is currently underway and the closing date is 30th June 2004.

Both these events will be held at the Cairns Convention Centre, and approx 5000 Indigenous people from more than 30 different countries are expected to attend.
