Paul D. Rice
Paul D. Rice is Executive Director of TransFair USA, the only organization providing Fair Trade certification in the US today. Previously, Paul worked as an economist and cooperative development specialist in Nicaragua for 11 years. Since his return to the U.S. in 1994, he has consulted for clients in twelve countries, including foundations, international development agencies, environmental conservationist organizations and farmer cooperatives. Paul's non-profit consulting group, New Ways to Work, specializes in delivering organizational and management solutions to rural co-ops in developing countries; more than 50% of his clientele are coffee farmers exporting to organic and Fair Trade markets. He has founded and directed several organizations, including PRODECOOP, a Fair Trade/organic coffee export cooperative representing some 3,000 farmers and their families in the northern Segovias region of Nicaragua. Paul holds an Economics and Political Science degree from Yale and an MBA from U.C. Berkeley.
