Concerned Residents Against the Jersey Ave Expressway

October 12, 1997

TO: Mayor Bret Schundler (via fax & mail)
FROM: Steve Lanset, Spokesperson - Concerned Residents Against the Jersey Avenue Expressway
CC: Mariano Vega, Councilman Ward E (via fax & mail)

The recent construction of Jersey Avenue south of Grand Street has caused a growing concern in the Downtown area about the goals of the construction and its impact on traffic and our quality of life. Specifically, the road appears to be part of a larger plan and this concerns us. What is the purpose of this activity? We'd appreciate your response to the following questions:

1. Why was this particular section of road built?

2. Why is this section of road raised?

3. Is the current construction of this road part of a larger plan to connect it to any other road? If so, which roads are they?

4. Are there approved plans for transportation projects in this area?

5. Please cite the proposed plans awaiting approval of this construction on the downtown streets? If so, please provide a copy of this report.

A prompt response is desired as we see that construction is taking place and our group as well as other neighborhood organizations are increasingly concerned over the project.

I look forward to your response by October 27th. Thank you.
