Assembly/Senate Bill to Allow JC to Inspect Big Trucks

by Steve Lanset, 10/03/99, updated 11/22/99

Assembly bill no. 2558 introduced by Hudson Assemblyman Joe Charles and passed by the NJ State Assembly last year would permit police in "1st class" cities, Newark and Jersey City, to stop commercial trucks for inspection. Unfortunately, it languished in NJ Senate committee for lack of a sponsor. In response to HART's request, Senator Bernard Kenny (Hoboken) recently (10/18/99) introduced the same bill (as #S2154) in the NJ state Senate. It is currently under consideration by the Senate Transportation Committee. Click here for the text of the bill.
