His separation was March 1946

My father was born February 6, 1924 in Dekalb County, Alabama. He married my mother, Joyce Elaine Chappell, on May 9, 1947 in Boaz, Alabama by the Rev. Robert Murphree.

He attended public schools in Dekalb County, Alabama and graduated from Crossville High School with Earnest Stone as principal. He later graduated from Jacksonville Teachers College and the University of Georgia. At one time, he also attended Emory.

He was the first Counselor at Rockmart and at Cedartown High Schools, the first Dean of Men at Georgia Southern College in Georgia, and the first Dean of Students and the first Head of Mental Health at Gadsden State Junior College in Alabama.

Dad died October 9, 1982 at UAB Hopital in Birmingham, Alabama as a result of cancer. He was friend/mentor to many-students, associates, and personal friends.

He was proud to be a hunter and fisherman, antique and gun collector. He admired birds of all kinds and fine hunting dogs. He doted on serenity and peace-seeing the sun rise in the morning and set in the evening. He thrived on nature. Above all, he was always student and educator. But, most importantly, he was a devoted family man. His passing is morned and he will be missed by many.
