Carmon's mom was Matty Ella Holmes. They called her Nannie. Mattie's parents were James Houston Holmes b. 8/19/1853 d. 10/19/1910 and Ann Humphries b. 6/9/1857 d. 8/25/1919. Both are buried in Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church located at Hulaco, Alabama in Morgan County.

Matty's siblings were: Addie, Emma, Miles, Edgar and Noah.
