NEMATODES

play an immense role in the biosphere that among the eumetazoans
is only surpassed by the arthropods. They live in marine and
freshwater habitats, in soil, debris, plants and as parasites in all kinds
of vertebrates, arthropods, molluscs etc. Some parasitic species are
of considerable size, but the free living species are usually less than
2 mm and of uniform, thread-like shape. There are several thousand
species with an enormous variation in habitat preference and life style,
and maybe most of them are still waiting to be discovered.
