The coati is a fascinating creature which lives in the rainforest. Among the rain forest's more social animals, the coati (Nasua narica) is a member of the raccoon family. Unlike raccoons, however, coatis are active during the day and generally hang out in bands of up to 30 members. Coatis are found from the southern United States to Panama in habitats ranging from tropical rain forests to temperate highlands up to 3,000 meters. They are equally at home on the ground or in the treetops and eat pretty much anything from fruit to insects, lizards and mice.
