GARDEN PICTURES

Here are some pictures of some of my favorite flowers in our gardens. The previous owners of our home did extensive landscaping, and these days we are adding our own touches and favorites to the gardens. Much of the gardens were overtaken by weeds before we even got here, so there's a lot of cleaning up and reorganizing in our future. :) This page will take some time to load, but I hope you enjoy the photos. Click on any one to see the picture in more detail. (And if you can help identify any of the mystery flowers, please email me! Since I didn't plant a lot of these, some are a mystery to me.)

May

 Periwinkle, Myrtle (Vinca Minor)    Tulips

 Golden Dead Nettle (Lamium maticulum)
? This looks much like a tall Garden Phlox, but it bloomed much earlier in the season. It was blooming at the edge of our woods.

Violets (Viola) - The state flower of Wisconsin    Trillium

My garden helper, Mike    Bleeding Hearts

Crab apple tree in bloom     Bugleweed (Ajuga)

Creeping phlox, Moss Pink (Phlox subulata)    ? Maybe Bugloss (Anchusa)

 White Lilacs    Delphinium (thanks, Paula)

Wild Columbine, Canadian Columbine (Aquilegia)    Lilacs

Lily of the Valley    ? This is a large shrub which was blooming right alongside the lilacs

 Poppies (Papaver)    Iris

June

 Lupine (Lupinus)    Iris

Iris   I want to find a large painted turtle for our water garden/goldfish pond. Matt found this one, but he's just too big, so he was just visiting!

A bouquet of irises and lilacs    Another pond visitor. He is hanging onto a Water Lettuce.

Butterfly koi, red cap orandas, and ryukin - among the frogwort and cattails.    Still more visitors. I found these baby snapping turtles on the lawn, near the goldfish pond. I wish they were painted turtles - I didn't keep these!

 Sundrops, Evening Primrose (Oenothera)   Peonies

 More peonies    Lilies

White Rose    ? In some ways, these resemble a sunflower. They are about 4 feet tall and loaded with coneflower-like blossoms. On some, the centers turned brown and changed shape to resemble a cone. The butterflies love these.

Matt catching crayfish in the river. I guess these are not really garden pictures!    Me, catching frogs in the river. I put these in our goldfish pond.

JULY

Calla Lily - We grow these in the goldfish pond as a water plant.    Our water garden/goldfish pond with waterfall, deck, and my container gardens.

Another view    Gold Coin Marigold - I think this is an alien being. These have grown almost 4 feet tall and they still have a lot of growing left to do.

 Bee Balm, Bergamot (Monarda)    Lily

Coreopsis, I think, along with a wild Ash tree that needs to be removed, and ferns.    Knapweed

Sedum    One of dozens of hostas, along with some impatiens that look like they need a drink!

 Lilies   Blanketflower

Begging for Breakfast    More Bee Balm, I believe

 Daisies    Brown-eyed Susan

A patch of Bee Balm (these are in the woods, as well as in our flower beds)    Sunflower

More of those mystery flowers    Lilies

I found this little friend taking a nap one morning. :) And no - she doesn't belong to me!    Hens and Chicks in bloom

 Purple Coneflower   Hydrangea

 Tiger Lilies

More to come
