Saint Vincent de Paul |
Father Antônio José Garces de Oliveira, c.m., Vicar, belongs to the Vincentian Fathers
of the Congregation of the Mission (C.M.), whose Founder is Saint Vincent de Paul.
Vincent de Paul was born the 24th of April 1581, in the village of Pouy, close to Dax.
He received the sacerdotal ordenation the 23th of September 1600 in Chateau L'Evéque, close to Périguex.
He started in a parish in Paris, later he became chaplain of the Gondi's family.
Totaly dedicated to his duty to assist the poor people, he founded, for this purpose
the Congregation of the Mission, to which he also confided the care of the formation of the Clergy.
With the aid of Luísa de Marillac he founded the Company of the Daughters of Charity.
He died in Paris, the 27th of September 1660. He has been beatified the 13th of August 1729,
and canonized the 16th of June 1737. By a Briefing at the 2nd of May 1885 the Pope Lion XIII
declared Vincent de Paul as the special patron of all the charity work
existing in the catholic world.
The main Fiest-day of Saint Vincent de Paul is on 27 of September.
